Abstract

Introduction: Betting on football is one of the most popular and popular activities all over the world, which has extensive destructive effects on sports and society. The purpose of this research is to qualitatively investigate this phenomenon in the country's football.

Research method: This research was conducted with a qualitative approach; So that research data has been obtained through the collection and analysis of news and information available in relation to the subject of research in the public media, as well as interviews with key informants in this field, including coaches and players of the respective teams. The sample of this research was also selected based on exceptional or marginal case sampling.

Findings: The results showed that betting in sports and specifically in football in the country is comprehensive and also has different dimensions. In other words, betting is not only financial, but includes many and diverse funds. Based on the results of the research, economic factors, political interventions in sports, weak supervision of sports competitions, and the weakening of (professional) ethics in the sports community are the reasons for the prevalence of betting in football in the country. increasing mental stress, distancing from the main purpose and function of sports, questioning the health of sports competitions, and sensitivity to whistleblowers of corruption are the consequences of such phenomena.

Conclusion: it is suggested to create and strengthen integrated control and monitoring structures to monitor the financial affairs of the football federation as well as sites and channels related to betting.
