Abstract

Introduction: This research was conducted to identify the barriers and solutions for the development of football academies in Iran.

Methods: The research was applied in terms of purpose and was a survey in data collection, conducted using a mixed approach. The statistical population of the research consisted of all coaches, players, faculty members, veterans, and football managers in Iran. In both stages, the purposive sampling method was used. In the qualitative stage, barriers and solutions were identified through semi-structured interviews. In the quantitative section, the identified barriers and solutions were ranked. The statistical sample size in the quantitative section was 181 people. The research instrument in the quantitative stage was a five-option Likert questionnaire made by the researcher, which was based on the items identified in the interview. 10 professors of sports management confirmed the content validity of the questionnaire, and its reliability was also calculated using Cronbach's alpha. To rank the identified barriers and solutions, the structural equation modeling test was used, and SPSS and AMOS software were used to analyze the data.

Results: The results showed that the most important dimensions in the barriers section included management and planning, coordination and communication, and human resources, and the most important dimensions in the solutions section included human resources, budget and financial resources, and infrastructure and facilities.

Conclusion: The results of this research can be used as guidance for policymakers and football managers in Iran to improve and improve academies and develop football in this country.
