Abstract

Introduction: The purpose of this research was to investigate the role of mass media on the cultural development of women's championship sports

Methods: According to the method of data collection, the research was of sequential exploratory type. The data collection tool in the qualitative phase is semi-structured interviews with 20 senior and executive managers of organizations in charge of culture, media and sports, such as the General Directorate of Culture and Islamic Guidance, radio and television, press houses, news agencies. Islamic Propaganda Organization, General Administration of Sports and Youth, General Administration of Cultural Heritage and Tourism and were members of the academic staff. They have been selected by purposeful sampling and snowball method. The research tool in the quantitative part was a researcher-made questionnaire. The research sample included 220 female professional athletes, coaches, sports managers, sports sociologists, and sports media specialists (sports anchors, sports reporters). They were selected by random classification method.

Results: In the qualitative stage, the data were analyzed by coding method in three stages of open, central and selective coding, and the findings were classified in the form of 11 concepts. Also, in the quantitative part, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis using Spss 20 and AMOS software was used to evaluate the research model.

Conclusion: The results showed; Through social participation, information, promotion, education, media justice, media independence, media objectivity and realism, legislation, management and economic affairs, the media play an essential role in the cultural development of women's championship sports.
