Abstract
Introduction: The current research aims to designing a model for the promotion of sports management in Iranian universities.
Methods: The research direction is developmental and inductive-exploratory in terms of goal, which was carried out as a qualitative research method with the grounded theory approach. First, a primary list of obstacles and limitations of the major was identified through preliminary studies. Then, purposefully, with theoretical and snowball sampling methods, in a semi-structured form, 18 elites who were aware of the research topic were interviewed until theoretical saturation. Using Glaser's approach, the data were analyzed simultaneously, including open, selective, and theoretical coding. Lincoln and Gaba's (1985) evaluation criteria were considered to validate the research results, including credibility, dependability, confirmability, and transferability.
Results: The model obtained from the data has three main categories, and the central phenomenon showed the major authority in sports. obstacles and limitations of the major have been categorized into three sub-categories, including the shortcoming of high-level institutions, the weakness of legal requirements, and the failures in sports management. Finally, the solutions for sports management development included three sub-categories: development of human resources competencies, curriculum
and research programs, and revolutionary legal requirements.
Conclusion: physical education faculties with sports management majors can make more detailed plans to improve the position and authority of the field in the country's sport according to the identified categories.
