Abstract

The aim of the present survey was to investigate and compare job burnout between professors of physical education and other fields of study. This survey used a discursive comparative approach. The statistical population consisted of professors from human sciences faculties in universities of Tehran, Shahid Beheshti and Allameh Tabataba’i. 65 professors were selected as the sample using stratified random sampling. Maslach job burnout evaluation questionnaire was used; its validity was determined by experts and the reliability by Cronbach’s alpha coefficient (?=0.81). SPSS analysis and independent t test, K-S, linear regression and U-Mann Whitney test were used to analyze the data. The results showed that burnout was low in physical education professors while it was moderate in other professors. There was a significant relationship between job burnout of the two groups. No significant relationship was found between job burnout and gender, neither between job burnout and career. However, a significant relationship was observed between age and job burnout.
