Abstract
The present study aimed at investigating the relationship between leadership styles and emotional intelligence of the group sport team coaches participating in the ninth Sport Olympiad for male university students in IRAN. 56 coaches were randomly selected based on Krejcie and Morgan table as the statistical sample. For collecting the data, Luthans (1985) leadership style inventory and Bar-On (1997) emotional intelligence inventory were used. For the analysis of the data, correlation coefficient of Pearson and one-way ANOVA analysis were used. The results of the present study indicated a significant direct correlation between people¬-oriented leadership style and emotional intelligence (r = 0.296, P < 0.05). The results also indicated a significant direct correlation between coaches’ coaching career and coaches’ age with people-oriented leadership style (r= 0.353,P>0.05), (r=0.381, P>0.05). It can be concluded that as coaches’ emotional intelligence, age and career increase, they tend more towards people-oriented leadership style.
