Abstract
Introduction: Given the rapid global movement towards technology in sports, this study explored the impact of virtual taekwondo on the future of taekwondo in Iran and developed future scenarios for the national championship, focusing on new technologies.
Methods: The initial population consisted of 87 experts, including champions, coaches, referees, and managers. Used qualitative methods and MICMAC and Scenariowizard software. The uncertainties of these three drivers were assessed, resulting in four scenarios—ideal, conservative, realistic, and pessimistic—each characterized by distinct conditions with corresponding opportunities and challenges.
Results: Initially, 17 factors influencing the future of taekwondo were identified, and with the participation of experts and the results of MicMac software, three key factors(management, technology, and medal-winning)were determined as independent and influential components shaping the future. The uncertainty surrounding these three factors was assessed, and based on this, four scenarios were developed: the Golden Age of Taekwondo scenario, the Decline and Stagnation scenario, and two probable scenarios that face various opportunities and challenges under different conditions.
Conclusion: The results indicate that modern technologies such as artificial intelligence and virtual reality can revolutionize the methods of training, competition, and performance analysis for athletes. However, challenges such as infrastructure limitations, lack of financial resources, and resistance to change are the main obstacles. Research proposals include investing in digital infrastructure, training human resources, and developing international collaborations. This research can contribute to improving the technical level of athletes, expanding the culture of taekwondo, and strengthening Iran's position in the global arena.
