Abstract

Introduction: Considering the importance of sustainable revenue generation in sports clubs and its role in professional sports development, this study aimed to identify the factors influencing revenue generation in Iraqi karate clubs and propose a conceptual model.

Methods: This qualitative research used the Grounded Theory approach of Strauss and Corbin. The study population included sport management professors, directors of the Departments of Sport and Youth, and karate club managers in Iraq. After reaching theoretical saturation, 19 participants were selected through purposive sampling. The data collection instrument was a semi-structured interview, transcribed, and analyzed in three stages: open, axial, and selective coding.

Results: Data analysis resulted in the extraction of 332 open codes, 54 axial codes, and 29 selective categories. The causal factors included innovation, customer attraction, resource development, social interactions, and legal support. Contextual conditions such as infrastructure, economic support, marketing, human resources, and market conditions were found to be influential. Intervening factors included economic challenges, managerial weaknesses, cultural-political barriers, weak human resources, and limitations in marketing and services. The key strategies identified were organizing events, training, marketing, cooperation, and optimal use of facilities. The main outcomes included the development of karate, financial sustainability, skilled human resources, growth of the sports industry, improvement of national and international status, and enhanced sports management and participation.

Conclusion: The findings can help karate club managers and sports policymakers in Iraq improve revenue generation through effective planning and the identified strategies, promoting the sustainable development of karate in the country.
