Abstract

Introduction: This study aimed to explore the influential factors affecting the acceptance and implementation of new energy-efficient technologies in sports facilities across Iran.

Methods: The research employed purposeful sampling followed by the snowball method to identify suitable interviewees, ultimately achieving theoretical saturation through discussions with 14 individuals. The research utilized two primary tools: a comprehensive literature review and in-depth interviews. Content validity for the interview tool was established by incorporating feedback from experts (four experienced researchers), and reliability was confirmed through the retest method with an 86% consistency rate.

Results: Analysis of the interviews resulted in the identification of 306 open codes, subsequently categorized ino 134 core themes. The study's outcomes revealed six principal factors influencing the acceptance and adoption of new energy-efficient technologies in sports venues: Management, economic, social, technical, political, and cultural factors.

Conclusion: Politicians, policymakers, and managers of sports organizations and venues must create the necessary conditions and infrastructure to build sports facilities with reduced energy consumption, considering the six identified factors, in order to achieve sustainable development goals in the country's sports sector and construct sustainable sports facilities. These measures will not only help reduce the environmental impacts of the sports industry but will also play a significant role in preserving the urban and national environment.
